The repercussions of the pandemic have brought into sharp focus the powerful role IT must play in the future of organizations.  Within this context of ever-accelerating change all emerging IT leaders must be adequately equipped with basic competencies to make them more adept at utilizing foundational leadership-related skills.  The convenience of online now makes this opportunity accessible to all first-time IT leaders.

HOW DOES THE "EMERGING LEADER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM" WORK?

100% ONLINE, SELF-PACED INDEPENDENT TRAINING MODULES AND ASSESSMENTS 

  • Program available exclusively for emerging leaders of any SIM-member organization or employees of any individual SIM member.
    • This is a new value-add for SIM members, offering yet another option in leadership development ... for the first-time, emerging leader at the beginning point on the learning development continuum.
  • Provides a baseline foundation of leadership-related skills and an orientation to basic managerial competencies.
  • Approximately 70 hours of online training modules.
  • Customized to focus on an individual’s specific areas of needed development.
  • Self-paced, not instructor-led.  Can be completed in 6-12 months at participant’s desired pace.
  • Various learning methods are utilized throughout the program to appeal to different learning styles.  Program material includes videos, audio and articles to read.
  • Program also includes a monthly hour-long voluntary webinar featuring workshops elaborating on the various skills, with guest speakers and an opportunity for participants to ask questions and engage in leadership-related discussion.
  • Certificate of completions from the SIM Leadership Institute will be issued upon successful accomplishment of the participant’s personalized development plan.


PARTICIPANT CRITERIA

  • Emerging IT leaders … team leads, first-time leaders or newly-designated managers


PROGRAM PROCESS

  1. IT manager selects the emerging leader for the program.
  2. Manager completes a brief automated pre-program assessment of the employee’s current leadership capabilities.
  3. Employee completes a brief automated pre-program assessment of his / her current leadership capabilities.
  4. Manager and employee compare their assessments; identify / discuss gaps.
  5. Based on gaps, manager and employee develop the employee’s individual program plan leading to the certificate of completion.  Managers are encouraged to periodically touch base and provide some guidance to the participant during the program.
  6. Per the agreed-upon plan, the employee undertakes up to 70-hours of necessary training modules over 6-12 months … independently, at his / her own pace.  Participants can also take advantage of monthly voluntary webinars. 
  7. The employee will be assessed at every stage of his / her individual personalized Emerging Leader Development plan.  Assessments are intended to demonstrate that participants have reviewed the material, thus becoming more familiar with basic leadership concepts and obtaining a reference point for future use in their career.  Program is not focused on memorization, but awareness of subjects.
  8. At the conclusion of the program, the employee will also prepare an "ELD Capstone" ... an opportunity for the participant to reflect on their program learnings and develop a basic 90-day plan on how they intend to put these learnings to work.
  9. Once the employee passes each stage’s assessment and prepares a capstone 90-day plan, a certificate of completion will be issued.
  10. Participant has the calendar year to complete the program … most should complete in 6 months.
